C1-EC

  1. What did you think about the A-B- C format?

The A-B-C format was really easy to follow along with the class. It allowed me to know what we were going to be doing on every week. It clearly stated that the middle eight weeks of Art 110 would be where a majority of the work consists. It helped me stay ahead of the schedule.

2. What did you think of the 4 Messy Hands activities? (Plaster Casting, Sketching in the Garden, Graffiti Writing & Finger Painting

The messy hands activity were the more fun activities compare to the rest. It allowed me to explore different types of art. As well as push me to go to explore the creative side of my mind.

3. What did you think of the 4 Life Design activities? (Design Thinking, ePortfolio, Environmental Portrait, vlog)

Life Design activities were tedious but I knew that there was an beneficial purpose behind them. The Life Design activities gave me a reason look more into my career(s) of interest. My favorite assignment out of the four would by far be the vlog because it allowed me to displays what I love to do outside of school and allows other people to enjoy it.

4. What did you think of the Student Choice & One More activities?

I do not have much of an opinion on this.

5. What did you think of visiting the SOA Galleries, having Conversations with SOA Artists, and blogging about them?

Coming into this class, I initially thought going to talk to artists would be a boring. But realized that I have actually come to enjoy viewing artwork and speaking with the artists. Blogging about them got really repetitive and at times I felt like I was saying the same over and over. But in the end I learned a lot and enjoyed looking at the creation

6. What did you think of using the class website, glenn.zucman.com/i2va, plus your own websites, instead of BeachBoard?

Getting used to using a website other than Beachboard was weird at first. But it was pretty simple to get the hang of it. I liked that I was able to have website literally is titled by my name. One thing I would change for the professor’s website is the to add to the calendar view the activity we are doing for the specific day of the week

7. What did you think of using WordPress for your blog?

WordPress was quick and easy to make and simple to use.

8. What did you think of using Wix for your ePortfolio?

Wix for my EPortfolio was pretty confusing to use. But in the end, I was able to do it and it has a nice design that looks very professional.

9. What did you think of the guest speakers? (Internships, Study Abroad, etc)

The guest speakers were helpful and informative. They had sparked my interest and had actually gotten me to look more into it.

10. What did you think of the times in class when we took time to meet new classmates? How many Art110 peeps did you know before the class started? How many do you know now?

I thought it was a good concept because everybody is stuck in their own little bubble and sometimes need to be pushed to doing thing out of their comfort zone. I knew about 4-5 people that were in the class and now i know about 8-9 people.

11. What did you think about having a class with no tests? I don’t just mean “was it cool to not have to take any,” but students use tests to guide their study and participation in a class. Students tend to learn what’s on the test, and to not learn anything that isn’t. Did not having exams make it harder to focus or find importance and relevance in the class?.

Yes having no exams made me question the importance and relevance in the class. However, having no tests just shows me that learning does not just mean memorization and formulas. It means that I have to actually enjoy and care about what I learn. Otherwise it is just meaningless to take those classes.

12. Any other thoughts?

Nothing really just continue to do what you do.

Art and (my) Life

Art is something that create individuality and allows people to express their creatives side. To me, Art shows the world that not everything is the same, that everybody in life will always have different perspectives. Whether, the topic may be controversial or not. Art is a way where we can introduce ideas that help people understand the minds of its creators as well as show topics about the world that some may not see. This semester going to all the art galleries and talking to artist is helped me see a whole other side of this school other than the engineering side.

As a mechanical engineer, we learn how to create stable and safe structures, design working codes, designing functional parts, etc. Taking art 110 allowed me to try something different. It allowed me to create things that I would normally not do. I found it nice to be able to create something that was of my own ideas. It helped me destress and relax from all the work piled on this semester. Taking the class I have come to understand that art is subjective. That it allows for me to decide freely how to express myself.

I believe that the art that we do in class will not be relevant to my major because we do not create anything that express creative side. However, art will still be applicable because designing infrastructures, buildings, power plants, car parts, etc. are still some form of art whether some people believe it or not. It takes a lot of passion and dedication to create something that you believe in. Stuff like turbochargers, intercoolers, the space needle, the golden gate bridge, etc. are all stuff of art. However, there are those people that say art is like paintings, sculpture, photographs which in my opinion is wrong because I believe art is creations that people art passionate about.

I think that after this semester is done I will continue to do art a more a hobby. Something I have done in the past but never really took on was photography and videography. I have always been interested in getting into these two things but with all the work from school and working outside of school I had never really found any time. So maybe in the future I will take classes or watch videos in order to better my skills. I feel like photography will allow me to create something really beautiful while still be original.

B8- Art Experience- Environmental Portraits

  1. What you were going for? I was going for something to show that my goal is to be a worker in the automotive field whether its building, designing, or fixing automotive vehicles
  2. How successful you think you were or were not? Not very successful because it is a very simple photo that can be taken many different ways.
  3. What you might do different next time?Next time I would prefer to be in a shop with multiple cars whether they are there for a simple check up or a whole rebuild.

B7- Art Experience- Drinking and Drawing

  • Was it fun? Was it frustrating? Do you like to draw? Will you ever try again? It was interesting not really frustrating but I am not that big into drawing and would never really try to do it unless I have spare time to kill
  • Do you think if you practiced for 100 hours, or 1,000 that you would get a lot better?Yes of course I believe if you do considerable amount of practice you can get a lot better at drawing
  • What is your major? Can you think of any ways that simple sketching of some kind could be useful in your major?Mechanical engineering and yes it can be useful in presenting an idea to an customer

B5- Art Experience- Graffiti Writing

This weeks activity was probably the best one by far in my opinion. The reason behind this is that I really enjoy working with spray paint. I have experience using it on various things mainly on car parts. I found the activity to not be so difficult however I could not get the my writing to be exactly how I wanted it to be because the spray can I had did not have the right nozzle size. I had just used the left over spray cans I had from previous projects. I had worked in my backyard and the most difficult thing I found was finding the right size object to use because I did not have many material to work with. But luckily I found this peace loose piece of wood in a hiding spot in my backyard.
